Mark is Medical Director with Sydney IVF and Head of Department at RPAH.  He gained subspecialty accreditation in Reproductive Endocrinology and infertility in 1990 and has practiced in this area of medicine since then.  Mark teaches both undergraduates and postgraduates at the University of Sydney and plays an active role in teaching in the Society and related craft groups (eg. START Course, Serono Symposia, FNA).  He is an examiner for RANZCOG for CREI trainees as they move to be subspecialists in ART.

Dr Junk is the Scientific Director of Fertility Specialists of WA. He graduated with a Science degree from UWA in 1981. Dr Junk has worked at a senior level in a number of IVF centres world-wide and completed his PhD in the area of “in vitro oocyte maturation” in 2002. He is currently a committee member of SIRT (Scientists in Reproductive Technology), Board member of the Fertility Society of Australia, a committee member of RTAC (Reproductive Technology Accreditation Committee), member of the Technical Experts committee for ART, and a member of the NH&MRC Embryo Research Licensing Committee. Clare Boothroyd, a Queensland graduate with first class honours, has completed specialty training in both Medicine (Endocrinology) and in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.  She has completed her subspecialty qualification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI).  She has been committed to evidence based practice and is a reviewer of the Cochrane Menstrual Disorders and Subfertility Group.  Her research interests have been mutation analysis in endocrine disease, ovulation induction and unexplained infertility.    Her practice is based at Greenslopes Private Hospital.

Prof. Chapman is a general representative.

He gained his Degree in Medicine from the University of Adelaide where he specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology before moving to the UK. Whilst in the UK Prof Chapman developed extensive experience in infertility, hormonal disorders and ART and worked at Queen Charlottes Maternity Hospital as Lecturer. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and gained his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of London. He was appointed Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of London.

After 15 years Professor Chapman returned to Australia where he was appointed Head of School, Women’s and Children’s Health, at the University of New South Wales. He is also Clinical Director at St George Hospital Kogarah. Prof Chapman has served as a Director of the FSA and was Chairman of the IVF Directors’ Group from 2002 -2007. He is an examiner for the Certificate in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, of which he is a Fellow.

Sandra has been involved in the care of infertility patients for the past 12 years.  Sandra completed her Bachelor of Nursing at Deakin University.  She has had a long term career in women’s health and, as a qualified midwife / registered nurse has held management positions within St George Private Hospital.

In particulate over the past 4 years Sandra has been part of the planning committee of the highly successful Serono Symposium Nurses Programs.  Sandra has also been directly involved in organising 3 mid year workshops for Nurses and 1 FSA program as well as participating in the START program in Sydney.

Alex Price joined Fertility Associates two years ago, after a number of years consulting for hospitals and pharmaceutical companies in NZ, Japan and Europe.  In his former life, pre-MBA from IMD Switzerland, he was a chemical engineer developing protein hydrolysates for infant formula.

Alex believes ART exemplifies the challenges facing health management in the 21st century – including how to improve productivity by developing people,  making treatment more accessible, and the place (or not) of business.  

In his time at Fertility Associates, they have made progress in these areas, including supporting staff doing PhDs, senior level embryologists spending one day a week on R&D projects for the company’s and their own development,  ‘Fertility Cover’ - a refund programme for those not covered by public funding, and a buy-back of shares from private equity.   He is treasurer of a NZ sailing association, and helped set up a Japanese language school.

For the future, it is key that FSA continues providing a platform to support the clinical, scientific and social development of fertility in Australia and New Zealand.  We need to maintain this position despite the current pressures on funding and ownership within the sector.Alex sees the Business/Finance role as ensuring that the resources are available to the society and to support quality decision making.

Sandra Dill AM, BComm, has acted as the consumer representative on national and state government working parties reporting to Health Ministers on ART since 1986. She has been invited to bring consumer perspectives on infertility to organisations including: the World Health Organisation, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, the Japan Society of Fertilisation and Implantation, the Bertarelli Foundation, the US Centers for Disease Control, the Australian Medical Association, the Plunkett Ethics Centre, the Victorian Infertility Treatment Authority, the SA Council on Reproductive Technology and the Fertility Society of Australia. She has represented consumers on FSA Council since 1990. Sandra has a Masters degree in law and is undertaking doctoral research which will examine surrogacy and the law and the importance of genetic connection in the construction of family.  Sandra’s experience over 12 years of medical treatment has included eight IVF attemtps, IVF miscarriage, facing a decision to cease treatment and living with involuntary childlessness.
