Under Consideration

What Clinical Trials are Under Consideration?

IVF-LUBE (in Women due to undergo In Vitro Fertilisation, Lipiodol Uterine Bathing Effect)

A randomised controlled trial to determine whether lipiodol uterine bathing improves IVF/ICSI outcome amongst women likely to to have implantation problems.

Following trials in Auckland showing that lipiodol, an oil soluble contrast medium, improves natural fertility, especially for women with endometriosis, and other studies suggesting that the mechanism of effect might be due to lipiodol uterine bathing rather than tubal flushing, this trial seeks to determine whether IVF/ICSI results can be improved by lipiodol exposure.

A trial involving 600 couples is proposed, with particular focus on couples where there has been recurrent IVF implantation failure and where the woman has endometriosis.

This study has ethical approval and has now received funding, it is currently recruiting in Auckland, with the hope that other centres will be on board in the near future.
