This textbook is aimed at covering the rationale behind the current methodology underlying techniques performed in IVF labs. Therefore, those chapters pertinent to any given technique should be read in conjunction with training undertaken to achieve technical competence. By so doing, it is anticipated that both technical competence and proper understanding of the technique being mastered will be achieved. This should encourage the reader to focus on the critical aspects of technique that are crucial to success, and motivate them to question whether there may be even better ways to perform a given technique and achieve improved outcome.

To this end, we have sourced input by authors from both Australasia and overseas, and the book has been edited by Australian scientists, with the aim of supplying this missing information link to new scientists within our profession.
